Your Tribe Matters

"A rising tide lifts all boats."

"You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with."

The number of quotes that reference how important it is to surround ourselves with great people is endless. Why does it matter who we allow into our lives?

Take a minute and think about some of the great groups that we have been a part of. Maybe it is an organization we have worked for, an athletic team, a gym, or a family. Whatever the group may be, it is undeniable that the collection of individuals drives each other to be better and push beyond what anyone could do alone.

Peak performance cannot be achieved alone. Others are needed to support, encourage, push, challenge, check, and hold us accountable. Without a tribe of driven individuals pushing in the same direction as us, we may never know our true potential. When we struggle and lose our way, we need people in our corner to remind us that it's impossible to progress without missteps. When we don't feel like putting in the time and effort to move forward, we can lean on those who are grinding with us day-to-day. When we experience success, we can share the joy and elation with those who helped us get there.

When we assess our life and those we allow to be a part of it, are the people who we spend the most time with helping or hurting us? Are they helping us to be better or fall into the bad habits that we want to stop?

Our challenge this week is to identify the tribes of which we are members. Write down how we can be better teammates and what we need from those in our tribe to continue growing everyday!
